Hollywood is best known for its six miles of protected white sandy beach along the translucent waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The world-famous Boardwalk provides beach-goers with a place to stroll, bicycle or skate. Hollywood is predominately apartments and condo complexes.
Hollywood is often called as the “Diamond of the Gold Coast” and known for setting aside 1,500 acres of mangrove preserves, site for protected bird rookery and sanctuary as well as a fish nursery ground. On Hollywood 's North Beach is a sea turtle hatchery and preserve.
Downtown Hollywood has an art district along Harrison Street and the Hollywood Art & Culture Center has become centers of activity in the cultural arts and entertainment. Port Everglades, the second busiest cruise port in the world, is partially within its municipal boundaries. Tri-County Commuter Rail and two major railroads cut through the city in a north-south direction.
